Sometimes a chicken needs a little tender loving care...

I found this poor little Miss on her back in the chook yard today. She couldn't get up and things were made worse with the big chickens walking on top of her and knocking her around.
I went and picked her up and noticed she had some egg shell stuck in her beak. I have no idea how it got there, I just hope it hasn't been there since she hatched last week.
Then I realised that she had either been pooped on, or had fallen in some poo. The poor little munchkin had it all on her face and in her nostrils!
Here she is now, she has been cleaned up and has a full belly.
She is tucked into bed with a teddy to snuggle.
We will keep her inside overnight, in a make shift brooder.

{Earlier today I discovered one of the babies had died. I don't know why, it happens sometimes. So whenever I see them in trouble like this I have to help, I can't just let nature 'do it's thing'. If I'd left this little one out there tonight, I'm sure she wouldn't have made it through the night. It doesn't take much for them to become weak. I have even been known to bandage up a newly hatched chick's bung legs! More often than not they don't survive, but I have to try, right?}

Yep, just call me Farmer Mavis.

UPDATE: Well she made it through the night, but unfortunately she died just now. I don't understand these things! Urgh.
