A zillion things

On cold, drizzly days like today, I look around my backyard and feel depressed.
There is so much I need to do.
There's lawns to be mowed, weeds to be pulled, garden beds to be made and plants to be planted.
I'm desperate for a vegie patch.

We moved into out home 3 and a half years ago, and it was a mess. We started making changes straight away, with the inside as well as the outside of the house.

On days like today, I need to look back and see how much we have done, how far we've gotten. Not just focus on the things not yet done.
It will take time, and a lot of money. But we're not in a hurry to go anywhere.
I need to be patient.

Our house was pretty dated when we moved in. A quick coat of paint and a tiled wall in the kitchen has changed the look a lot.
So far the interior has all been cosmetic- the big changes will be happening in the next few years.

Have you renovated a house before?
Do you have a to-do list a million miles long like me?
Do you forget to look back at how far you've come, instead getting carried away with the still-to-be-done?

  1. Such a great post. We too have done the hard yards, but are still to finish the final touches. Not sure about you, but we go in bursts. We get super keen to finish something big, then have a lull......front verandah for us is day soon!

  2. You have such a gorgeous home! Love your kitchen! Look at all that work you have done!!!

  3. Love these before and after shots, your home is beautiful!!
I have got a huge to do list, I don't even want to think about it all! xx

  4. OH now that is what i call a home, look at those buxom chickens, so huge & healthy. We're taking delivery of 4 hens tomorrow, so our baby chicks will be able to eventually go outside & brave our below zero night, already, nestle under those feathers. Your style of home is what we're building, a big homestead, i can't wait, getting a bit impatient now, as i wait for soldier boy to come home from war & start signing on some dotted lines. Love Posie

  5. I love your style and you have come such a long way with your home. We need to look back through our photos regularly too to see how far we have come. When you live in the renos it evolves around us and we really don't get to appreciate it as much, do we!
You have done an amazing job and I look forward to seeing what else you achieve :)

  6. wow, your home is lovely! I am in the middle of rennovation at the moment, it feels never ending.

    check it out at

  7. Argh, I so get this! But, your home is gorgeous as it is already. Slowly but surely, that's our new motto! Love your blog :)

  8. It's quite serendipidous (spelling??!) that I found your blog tonight! We are nearly 4 years into a renovation on our old farmhouse in an area I am presuming is near you. I too get depressed some days - especially when it seems like everyone around me is getting razzle-dazzle renovations done with big fat loans, and it's all over in a few months! But we just plug away, bit by bit, and it's not a race, and there's no prize for finishing first!

I am also adamant that this is our HOME, not just a project, or a to-do list, or a "reno". When I low down and remember that, I feel much better :)

Your home looks beautiful and full of life. So glad I found your blog!

Thanks for your lovely messages! They really make my day :)
