Grateful for gig night

I went to my first music festival when I was 15 and have loved the live music scene ever since. These days I don't get out to see as many gigs as I would like, but I do make an effort when someone special comes to town. When I saw that Stonefield were booked to play at The Karova Lounge, my friend Zoe and I decided we had to go! We thought we were going to see them at the recent Groovin the Moo festival. I'd been telling Zoe all about this awesome girl band but boy did I feel like an old loser when 4 young boys started playing on stage instead. They were called Goldfields, not Stonefield. I immediately felt like my father when he used to call bands 'The Silver Pumpkins' Ugh!

Anyhoo, we rocked up unfashionably early, enjoyed a couple of ridiculously priced beverages, then settled in to watch the support bands.
The first band on were called Animaux. They rocked the stage with some seriously strong female vocals (which was coming from the mouth of a very young looking girl, unexpected!) and a trumpet and a couple of saxamaphones. Nice.

Next was a group of interesting lads called King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Definitely an eye opener! Let's just say there was 7 guys on a very small stage, high as kites, all doing their own thing as vigorously as possible. Very funny, I quite liked the tunes, and the vacant stares in their eyes as they swayed and shook on stage!

Then the girls came on. They are all so tiny!  And they look exactly the same.
Let me tell you, they rocked! I loved every minute.

Did you know the bassist is only 13 years old? Crazy! Watching her I kept thinking 'she's only 2 years older than Jess!' She is a natural rock chick! How cool would it be to have 4 rocking daughters! (and that's what the 19 year old boy next to me said too! Wha..?)
If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend you go and see these girls.

Linking up with Em from The Beetle Shack for I'm grateful for... She's helping Maxabella loves for the day. You're moving on up in the blogging world Em, don't forget the little people when you're famous!

  1. I went to a gig Monday last week and discovered new bands as well. I love your description of the music festival. If we share the same city I would've been there, too. Cheers!

  2. Boy I miss my gig days - I really should make more of an effort. And I agree ... How amazing are Stonefield. I remember looking them up when I heard their song Black Water Rising - they are way cooler at 13 than I ever was!!
