Croonin' tunes

It's no secret that I love all things old. I'm basically a Nana in a 32 year old's body. A cool Nana though.
I only own one doily, I don't have a knitted doll toilet roll holder and you won't see potpourri in underwear draws in my home.
I only do the cool Nana things, like crochet cool things, embroider cool images and wear cool sandals with cool tights.
My home is decorated in vintage goodness, from the lounge room to the kitchen, the bedrooms and the bathroom.
There's just something about time's gone by that I find so appealing. So comforting and cosy.

Last week I decided a record player was a necessity in my home.
Target had them on clearance for $29. I couldn't decide if I wanted a new one or an old one though, so I didn't buy one straight away. Then after a chat with Ro about his ace new record player from Target, I was there in a flash. If it was good enough for him, it was certainly good enough for me!

I set my new baby up in the kitchen, where I spend a large chunk of my time at home. Straight away I put on my newest record - Lanie Lane's 'To the horses'.
This was great of course, but I felt I needed some old tunes to get that old time feel.

We have an old stack of Ben's Grandma's records on our shed, so I had a squizz through them. I found a few goodies like Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and Johnny Cash, amongst other not so goodies like Kamahl and The Seekers.
Let me tell you, the atmosphere completely changes when you play some of these old records.
I feel transported back to a simpler time, with no cares or worries.
Things seem so relaxed, and mundane jobs seem that bit easier when doing them to the sounds of a crooner.
Today Ben and I went to Daylesford and visited the Mill Market.
There was a kazillion records there, I could have spent all day going through them. They were a bit costly though, and I don't have the most patient husband when it comes to shopping so I didn't get
a really good look.
I did end up buying an Everly Brothers album though, which I love!
My parents used to play them all the time, so it brings back memories.
Oh, and I can play 'Bye Bye Love' on my ukulele. We had a big family sing-a-long at Christmas, so I always remember that when I hear it!
Next I would like to find some Beatles albums, they are my all time favourite.

So now while I am doing my Nana hobbies, I can have the music to create the full atmosphere!
$29 well spent.
Aah, the sweet life of a Nana.

  1. How lovely. Like you, listening to the oldies takes me back to my childhood. They just don't make music like they used to (see, I'm a Nana too!) xx

  2. Now how cool is that, a record player! I still have the fondest memories of dancing around my parent's room when I was little, with their old vinyls blaring. In fact, my first ever music as a child was on record. Smash Hits 88 if I'm not mistaken AND I also have Kylie's first album on vinyl.
It's pretty awesome that they even still sell the players.
    Enjoy those tunes Rach! xo
