I can hardly believe it but it's been a whole month since we opened Modern Vintage at our new location!
Life has been so different since I closed the salon and started working in retail full time.
After 13 years of hairdressing, this change has been oh so welcome!
It's probably hard to imagine if you've never been a hairdresser how draining it actually is. You're on your feet all day, your back and neck aches, and you're under constant pressure to please every single person that walks through the door. It can be really stressful and even make you feel sick to think that someone isn't happy with what you've done. You'll please 98% of clients, but it's that 2% that really affect you.
Don't even get me started on the rude people, who think you're at their beck and call.
By the end of it I was well and truly spent, and couldn't wait to move onto something more relaxing.
So here I am, living my dream! I even get to blog while I'm here!
Now when I go home at the end of the day I still have energy, I can spend time with my family and not feel run off my feet due to late hours, and I am so relaxed.
What's more, I really look forward to going back into work the next day.
Have you ever had a big change in your career?
Was it for the better?
Do you love it every day?
So inspiring to venture out and follow your dreams....I wish I was brave enough! I need to make a trip up to Ballarat to be even more inspired by your little store!

ReplyDeleteYou should be really happy Rach you have done a outstanding job a real credit to you and style galore
ReplyDeleteI was recently made redundant and it's given me the chance to sit back and really think about what I want to do ... also I've lost of spare time so I've been baking, crafting, walking, yoga-ing and generally having a blast!
ReplyDeleteOh My... where is this store? It looks amazing! is this yours? I have been dreaming about opening my own little store... not the right time... perhaps you make like a terrarium or two! xx
ReplyDeleteOh I so understand the need for a change from hairdressing. I was a hairdresser for 7 years in a very high pressure salon. 5 years ago I decided to leave and go to uni to study youth work (similar to social work). I now have a job working with young people at risk and LOVE what I do. Congratulations on your big lifestyle change. You won't regret it. xo
